We are delighted to present for sale what is quite simply the best example of an ex-military Land Rover® 90 which we have ever had the pleasure of bringing to market. This vehicle was only released from the military in 2012, and was purchased from Whithams, a well known ex-MOD retailer. It was purchased with just 67, 270km’s – equivalent to just 41, 799 miles. It was then subjected to a comprehensive refurbishment by PA Blanchard LTD in 2016, with a bill of £6338, to refurbish it. During this process, 116hrs of labour were carried out and this included:

This is just one of the bills which exists (there are many more for servicing, repair, new parts, etc). Today, the vehicle shows just 48, 800 miles, having barely been used by the previous keeper and garaged for its civilian life. This means externally, it has all the things you’d want to see in a good ex-military 90, including lamp guards, bonnet mounted spare, very straight bodywork, front and rear mudflaps, rear step, etc etc. The photos tell the story here.
The interior carries on the well sorted feel – the new seats and cubby box in front, with twin benches in the back and 4 belts, meaning this Land Rover® can seat six people including the driver. Sliding side windows in the back give a light and airy feel for passengers and help with visibility for the driver. A NOS load mat is fitted to the rear floor. Even a front headliner has been fitted, to give a premium feel. This is all great news – often, these 90s are either missing items, or have had modifications which take them away from standard – not the case here.
Out on the road though, is where this 90 really shines through – the ultra low mileage (equating to just 1574 a year since new) means it has a very well sorted feel – the major appeal of these ex-military 90s is two fold – firstly, they afford modern creature comforts like power steering, coil springs and a five speed gearbox, but without the complicated ECU electronics of later models which can cause costly bills and difficult repairs. Secondly, the sheltered life led in the military means that where a civilian 90 at this age may be reaching the end of its usable life, this is not the case here. It truly is ideal for the sort of person who is looking for a robust Land Rover® which can carry the whole family no matter the conditions.
In summary, if you are looking for a Classic Land Rover® which has all the major features one has become accustomed to, but without the complications of modern variants and also the wear and tear normally associated with a vehicle of this age, then this could be for you. At the point of sale, we will be putting a brand new MOT on this vehicle for the new keeper at no cost – so it’ll be ready to earn its keep in the upcoming winter weather. With classic insurance as an added bonus, it should prove cheap to run in the longer term too.
We think it very unlikely we will see an ex-military 90 as good as this for a significant period – and possibly, never again. Residual values for Land Rover® 90s are climbing, however they are not yet at the level of Series vehicles – so this, in our opinion, represents exceptional value for money.
