BEX 1093
Few cars have been preserved as well as this rare AC Ace Bristol; having never left Illinois (USA) since arriving in mid-59, this unique Ace is now back on the road after its return to the UK in 2015 where the car has undergone a full mechanical restoration
Ordered in Rouge Iris and Brown leather with black hood and tonneau-cover. BEX 1093 left Thames Ditton Works to London Docks on 21 July 1959, dispatched to Imperial Motors Ltd, Chicago, Illinois to its first owner, the sports-car enthusiast and real estate developer, Frank C Rand III of Hubbards Woods, Illinois.
BEX 1093 was actively campaigned in the early 60's at the Meadowdale Raceway, Carpentersville, Illinois, a 3. 27 mile (5. 26 km) long track with a steep 180-degree curve, known as the ‘Monza Wall’. It was this infamous section of the track that accounts for the battle scars that the car wears to this day - tyre friction burns to both rear wheel arches.
Returning to the UK in 2015; an original Bristol block was located by Stanton Motorsport, who rebuilt the Bristol engine utilizing the original head and sump and component parts. BEX 1093 was then entrusted to Julian Shoolheifer, the leading 'preservation-restorer' and Thunder Road Speed Shop in Horsell who undertook a thorough restoration of all safety and linkage parts.
It's rare to find such an original AC Ace.
