Description

1937 AC "Ace" 16/ 66 Foursome Drop Head Coupe.

Chassis number: L562

Registration Number: FEV255

A really really rare & pretty car that was highly rated in its day. This car was mechanically restored some years ago by one Mr Moss in Southport from whom the current 83 year old gentleman purchased the car some 7 years ago. Since purchase the car has seen little but sparing use clocking up less then a couple of thousand miles.

The restoration brief was to keep the car as original in appearance as possble. To that end the interior leather was pleasingly retained & Connolised as were the very art decco sunburst door cards. The engine was disassmbled for which there are pictures on file & rebullt to a good standard with a further £5, 000 recently spent on sorting out a siezed cam shaft bearing & generally fettling the engine for which bills are on file. The roof is a brand new black mohair affair easily raised & lowered with a hood bag to cover it when down.

A motorists record book comes with the car detailing the mileage from 1961 starting at 101253 & now reading 126345 miles. The book interestingly has a map of the newly built M1 motorway on the inside cover showing it petering out just short of Rugby.

The engine is a six cylinder 2 litre affair fed by triple carburettors. A 2016 Automobile article on a similar car states: The heart of the car was that outstanding all-aluminium 2 litre engine. As fitted to the competition sports model it offered triple SU carburettors and a seven to one compression ratio. A copy of the article is in the cars large history file. The car is equipped with a built in jacking system with the handle & rod stowed in an alcove in the boot lid. A full set of original instruments are found in the oval aperture wooden dash board.

This is a very very stylish car that offers sprightly perfomance in modern B road traffic or at 60MPH on dual carriageways. It is light & good handling with an easy to use Moss gear box. There is ample room for four people & also useful luggage space in the boot.

At 83 years old the current owner has now reluctantly decided to pass the torch to the younger generation & thus it is on the market.
