This delightful period Rover was first registered to Patrick Parry or National Provincial Bank in Aberystwyth. It then passed on to Daniel Joens of Moelifor who used it to depart on his honey moon (we have period pictures) in 1922. Indeed the car comes with an assortment of period pictures & also infomation from a couple of decades ago when it went though a Bonhams auction.
Disinterred from a garage in 2002 the engine was fully rebuilt including line boring, new pistons, new white metal, bronze clutch plate etc. More recently a new set of gears have been cut & installed in the gear box to cure a whining second gear. A starter motor has also been fitted with ring gear on the fly wheel to make for ease of modern use.
The Rover is in really lovely lightly patinated condition & runs beautifully. The current Yorkshire based owner has used it for local runs & also to tour the North Yorks Moors in full James Herriot style.
The current owner has looked after it without regard to expense & like all his other cars it is in tip top running condition. The previous owner was noted verteran car expert Stuart Skilbeck who used it for a variety of events includint the Gordon Bennet in Ireland where it acquitted itself admirably.
The car is festooned with the usual assortment of brass lamps, horns & mirrors etc. Under the bonnet it is clean & tidy. The rear lid flips open to reveal a large luggage space. The car sits on cast artillery wheels with a side mounted spare. These have been recently shod with new beaded edge Excelsior tyres from Longstone.
The side valve engine of 2. 298 litres fires up right away & pulls strongly in all gears with no smoke or untoward noises as one might expect from a fully rebuilt unit. The gear box is three speed & is a delight to use as a result of the remanufactured gears having been installed.
All in all this is a delightful edwardian from a well known brand & is in impeccable mechanical condition thoughout. It is reasonalbly fast & absolutley at home for B road motoring.
