We are delighted to present for sale this 1975 Series 3 Land Rover®, which has recently been completed by the John Brown 4×4 Team. This vehicle benefits from a host of mechanical and cosmetic upgrades and enhancements – read on below.
Externally, as one can see, JMT has all the specified extras of our “Bond” Edition variants – the new 750 tyres with bonnet mounted spare, larger defender door mirrors, wheel arch extensions, new bumper, new canvas, vintage number plates, rear grab handles, tow bar and electrics, etc etc. It looks as though it has just been “on location” and shooting… we think these really look incredible, both in photos and the flesh. The bodywork is a spray finish too, which is great to see.
The interior houses seating for seven with three front new standard seats, with deluxe matting to the footwells. The rear houses the twin benches with a load mat to protect the floor against scratches. This will allow the whole family to come along for the ride in the rain, snow or sunshine!
Where this Series 3 really comes into its own is the mechanical specification, though – this Series 3 has both a reconditioned gearbox, fitted by us, along with a MOD reconditioned petrol engine, also fitted by the John Brown 4×4 Team. We are the only company in the world which still have MOD reconditioned petrol engines in crates – these are a very expensive item, which were fully rebuilt by the MOD for the military, and then run-in via bench testing, rebuilt and dressed to drop in and fit (they come with all ancillaries, including carburettor, alternator, starter motor already fitted!). JMT benefits from one of these engines – painted in the signature military duck egg blue colours (photo attached). It has not done more than 50 miles since run in and fitted. We elected to fit a new engine in this case as the original engine had suffered poor compression, and was not performing as it should. As a belt and braces approach for an all-new, revised drivetrain, we also fitted one of our reconditioned gearboxes – again, we are the only company in the UK which do these gearboxes in-house.
This means that, out on the road, this Series 3 feels tight, brisk and slick – not something we can often say.
