How about this for a cheap run around this summer? It is a 1960 Triumph TR3A, RHD, Finished in Powder Blue with Black Interior. She has had a lot of restoration work and is ready for its new owner at a very realistic price.
Simply constructed, practical to own and offering 100mph-plus performance at a bargain price, the Triumph TR2 was an enormous success both at home and abroad so it was only to be expected that its successor would represent evolution rather than revolution. Introduced in October 1955, the TR3 was indeed little different from the TR2; changes to the Standard Vanguard-derived 2. 0-litre engine boosted power from 90 to 95bhp but the most obvious difference was the adoption of an 'egg box' radiator grille. By mid-1956 the engine developed 100bhp courtesy of a new cylinder head; then, in August, Girling front disc brakes and the stronger Phase III Vanguard rear axle were standardised. Cosmetically revised but mechanically indistinguishable, the TR3A was phased in during 1957. New front-end styling featured a full-width grille incorporating sidelights/ indicators, and for the first time there were locking door and boot handles plus an improved interior.
Our car was built in February 1960 in Powder Blue with Black Interior and White Soft Top, the same as today. She was Despatched to the USA later that month from Berth 5, Royal Edward Dock, Avonmouth, Bristol aboard the vessel 'Carina". She arrived in sunny Los Angeles and was sold new by CAL Sales Inc of Los Angeles. We have no history with the car unfortunately until she comes to the UK in 2020, whereupon a small recommissioning was embarked upon. The body is nice and tidy and the interior is new although everything has been done to an average standard, not for showing. At some stage the original engine has been lost and a replacement TR3A unit from 1958 has been sourced and fitted, and also the car has been converted to Right Hand Drive. She starts and runs well but has been sitting for while so would benefit from a service and tune up and a general tidying up of the general appearance. Also she needs a new Soft Top although the frame is there. All in all, a great little car to enjoy and improve over the summer! She is in the perfetc colours and is ready for the summer at a very attractive price!
