Description
The Turner Mark 1 was produced from 1959 to 1961 with three engine choices: BMC A series 948cc; Coventry Climax FWA 1098cc; and, Coventry Climax FWE 1216cc. It was an immediate success on the racetrack given the combination of a tubular chassis, lightweight fibreglass body and highly tuneable engines. The cars are known for their pin-sharp handling and remain a popular and competitive choice in the smaller capacity classes to this day. The Climax engine cars are particularly welcomed by race organisers who prefer them to the A series cars which are often taken out to a significantly larger capacity than standard.
44 YOK: Chassis number 60/ 438 was supplied new to Tri City Sports Cars, Massillon, Ohio in 1961 (as verified by the official factory register) and is believed by the Turner Register to be the last Mk1 made. It was supplied as an A-series powered car and was raced extensively in club racing in the US. Racing logbooks are available to back this up along with the details of former owners who competed in the car. It was brought back to the UK in 2017 and was subject to a major rebuilding programme; the work was carried out to a very high standard by an aircraft engineer to comply with FIA regulations. The opportunity was taken to install a Climax 1216cc engine as this is the most desirable and competitive powerplant.

Glynn Peacock all-steel engine taken out to 1242cc to comply with FIA regulations. Twin 40 Weber carburettors. Hardy Engineering close ratio gearbox and 4. 55:1 LSD. Bespoke roll cage which fits under the hard top but is also suitable for open use. Custom built exhaust system. Two sets of wire wheels (4" and 5") and corresponding Dunlop tyres. Some additional spares including a gearbox and matching propshaft. UK V5. Attractive transferable registration number.
44 YOK has been raced sparingly since the rebuild so presents very well. It has competed with Equipe Classic Racing, FISCAR and the VSCC at various circuits and has been completely reliable. The engine has had only five hours of race time and is in very good condition, although it would benefit from a rolling road session prior to its next race as one would expect. The car sits on Dunlop L Section tyres which are well used so would need to be replaced. Otherwise, 44 YOK is ready to race and has the potential to be a very competitive car in the right hands.
The car is now available for sale due to a change in the owner's racing plans for 2023. RTCC would be delighted to run and maintain this lovely car for its new owner.
