1967 Maserati Mistral Spyder by Frua
3700cc Six cylinder twin overhead cam engine developed from the 250F and said to produce 235 hp in the fuel injected form. Five-speed gearbox, disc brakes and fuel injection were standard equipment by this year. Production ceased in 1970, by which time a total of 828 coupés and 123 Spyders had been built but there were less than 20 RHD Spyders produced. (Some sources maintain there were only 14)
One of only 46 completed with the 3. 7-litre engine, this Mistral Spyder was purchased by the current owner in 1988 and taken to Hong Kong for a few years. During his early years of ownership he had respected marque specialists McGrath Maserati restore the body; they also fitted new sills and repainted the car. Regularly serviced and maintained the car benefits from considerable recent expenditure and comes with bills for works carried out in 2018 by McGrath Maserati, totalling in excess of £18, 000. These works included rebuilds of the cylinder head, fuel injection metering unit, front suspension, and the steering mechanism. Other recent improvements include re-chroming of the bumpers and fitting a new convertible hood. The last item on the list to do is the gearbox that needs attention. It all works but occasionally gets stuck in 5th gear.
In superb condition with arrow straight panels, superb paint and excellent brightwork. The car drives very well with its wonderful straight six twin cam engine exhibiting it’s Grand Prix heritage in both sound and performance.
