This car was imported from Italy and first registered in the UK in 1965, but the vehicle is pre 1965. The Guilietta range of cars were introduced in 1954, the first 4 door saloon appeared in 1955 and continued through to 1965. Alfa’s of this period were technically advanced, using a unitary body design featuring front suspension with control arms with coaxial springs and hydraulic dampers, rear solid axle with coil springs. The rear axle was located by a longitudinal link on each side, and by a wishbone-shaped arm linking the top of the aluminium differential housing to the chassis.
The engine is a 1290cc all aluminium twin overhead camshaft design which in “Ti” specification produces 73 bhp at 6200 rpm and giving a quoted top speed of 96 mph.
This LHD Alfa is believed to have been imported in around the early 2000’s, subsequently, the car went under a comprehensive rebuild by its engineer owner including a full body and mechanical restoration. The car was resprayed and interior refurbished. More recently, the twin cam engine has been rebuilt due to a cylinder head gasket failure. Starting promptly and running smoothly on inspection the car shows good oil pressure with no untoward mechanical noise.
The paintwork is still in good condition but does have some small areas where the paint has been affected by being under a close fitting cover. Chrome work is generally very good with some small imperfections on the centre of the front bumper. Interior is in neat and standard order.
A very rare car in the UK but with plenty of support from specialist suppliers here and abroad, this vehicle will please any classic enthusiast.
