AC’s Weller designed overhead cam six cylinder engine is, in my opinion, one of the best medium size engines produced in England during the first part of 20th century. It was introduced as far back as 1919 and continued to power AC cars (with continually increasing BHP output) right up to the Ace sports car of the early 1960s.
This particular Weller engined Acedes sports tourer (which I have to say is one of the most elegant cars I have seen in quite a while) has been in the same private ownership since the late 1970s with longevity of ownership always being a good sign and in this case it was in the custody of the managing director of a long established internationally known family business.
There is a very interesting letter on the file from the now deceased custodian of this car to another Acedes owner in which he says that between the two of them they own what he believes are the only remaining 4/ 5 seater Acedes tourers left so it is indeed a rare machine.
The car is in remarkably good condition as indeed are the other cars in his private collection and I am reliably informed that he was meticulous in his approach to having his cars maintained in top order and was in the fortunate position of being able to afford the very best people to help him in that endeavour.
I have always felt that ACs are as good as any contemporary similar capacity six cylinder car in terms of design, construction quality, good looks and performance so maybe now would be a very good time for you to consider acquiring one – I don’t think you will be disappointed if you do!
