1953 - Citroën Traction Six Cylinder Roadster by Peacock
French registration in progress
Chassis n° 9/ 537533
Among the Traction models, the cabriolet versions, of which only 400 of the 4, 327 produced remain, are particularly sought-after. Only six 6-cylinder 15-Six cabriolets were produced at Citroën's Javel plant, each responding to a specific internal order, in particular for the Michelin family, who owned the Chevron brand at the time. They hit the market like a bombshell and are now sought-after by the world's greatest collectors.
The car we are presenting was commissioned from the excellent coachbuilder Peacock Automotive Engineering in the late 1980s. Based in Leicestershire, Peacock was renowned for the beauty of its work and the quality of its craftsmanship. A Peacock Roadster is therefore much more than a simple conversion. The main body, watertight bulkhead, transverse bulkhead, floorboards and spider at the rear are in keeping with the Javel production, but with more modern techniques, particularly in terms of treatment and protection against corrosion. Well-known to Citroën collectors, this is the seventh Traction convertible fitted with the 6-cylinder engine assembled by this renowned tuner, and the only right-hand-drive one, built on the basis of a very rare Six Cylinder that rolled off the assembly lines at Slough in 1953.
Over the last thirty years, this car has been carefully preserved in one of Citroën's finest collections across the Channel, before joining the collection of a French enthusiast in early 2019. The car has been pampered and is in simply exceptional condition. Only four 6-cylinders and sixteen 4-cylinders were built by Peacock Engineering in the 1970s/ 1980s. Presented here at an extremely attractive price, this Six Cylinder Cabriolet offers far superior road-holding qualities to a 4-cylinder convertible... for a lower price. An opportunity not to be missed, given that the last authentic example sold at auction fetched over ?600, 000!
Est. 80 000 ? 120 000 ?
This car will be sold by auction by AGUTTES Auction House, in Peugeot Museum, Sochaux, France, on October the 15th, 2023.
