Condition
This 1983 280SL was chosen from the factory with lightweight Mexican Hat style alloy wheels, in the delightful combination of white with navy blue. The six cylinder engine of the 280SL feels fruity and free compared to the more refined 300SL, and is a real joy to drive - many people prefer the feel of an early 280SL due to the purity of the driving experience.
With just over 79, 000 miles on the clock, this is a fairly low mileage car that benefits from a huge amount of recent work.
Finished in Classic White with contrasting Blue Fabric Soft Top, this beautiful SL really is a sight to behold. Restored to excellent condition, the paintwork inside and out is just lovely. Under the bonnet the engine bay is superbly clean and tidy, while inside the car benefits from a completely refreshed interior - new carpets, new mats, new seats and new door cards give this old car a new car smell. There is also a new soft top, giving the next owner the opportunity to take advantage of just how much has been spent on this car to present it as it is today.
It should also be noted that the hardtop is not in the same condition as the car - the previous owner simply never used it, the car was kept in a garage and only ever went out with the fabric roof up or down - never with the hardtop - so the hardtop is in original and unrestored condition.
History
This car has been known to SLSHOP for many years, undergoing a significant restoration elsewhere with many of the parts supplied by us. Invoices and receipts on file date back to the early days of SLSHOP, showing a significant number of parts have been replaced with parts sourced by us.
Present with the car is the original owner's manual and service book, with services stamped up to 47, 291 miles. More recently the car has undergone maintenance in line with its restoration, and is presented in lovely condition today.
