We are delighted to present for sale this 1969 Series 2a (crossover model) which has been rebuilt onto a galvanised chassis and is presented in station wagon configuration. The crossover model was built between 1969-71 in preparation for the Series 3 Land Rover®, but retaining the ?hard? dashboard with centre key and with a metal maltese grill. The reason for this change in 1969 was a change in the British law, which mandated a distance between the headlights greater than the original 2a was capable of ? in effect a stop gap until the soon-to-be Series 3s would be in full production ? hence the ?crossover? name!
Externally, this Series 2a has all the features one would hope to see ? the bonnet mounted spare, side steps for the front passengers for easier entry, rear mud flaps, towbar with electrics to allow towing, defender mirrors for better rear visibility and safari roof with side windows. The vehicle sits on a set of Kingpin cross-climate tyres, which afford the best compromise between on and off road ability. The bodywork is a spray finish, which is good to see & the recent front bumper completes the look, along with the vintage black and silver number plates. Another big attraction here is the fact it has been rebuilt onto a Galvanised chassis too, which means that corrosion is not something that the new owner will have to tackle in relation to welding repairs.
On the inside is where these station wagon configurations really come into their own over standard through ? three deluxe type seats in the front, with the outers benefitting from intergrated headrests for additional comfort. Deluxe matting is fitted to the footwells and door cards are fitted to the front doors for that premium feel and to give additional sound insulation. Sun Visors are also fitted. There is a proper Smiths? square heater installed, with front demist, very handy for those colder mornings. The rear houses a pair of twin bench seats with a load mat to the floor area, and a door card to the rear door. This means that this vehicle seats seven people including the driver, meaning that the whole family (and the dog!) can come along for trips out to the beach, pub or just around town.
Out on the road, the culmination of all the interior upgrades means a quieter driving experience thanks to the soft trim, as well as leading to a light and airy feel for all those in the cabin when driving, along with better visibility for the driver. The benefit of a galvanised chassis rebuild can be felt behind the wheel ? the weber carburettor affords greater power than standard, along with an overdrive which reduces cabin noise and increases fuel economy too. The cross climate tyres give the best possible ride with the period set up. The period looks and charm mean it gains the right sort of attention when on and about, and people always want to chat with you when filling up at the petrol station etc.
In summary, if you are looking for a rebuilt Series 2a Land Rover® which can carry the whole family in relative comfort, then this could be for you.
