Description
This wonderful low mileage Wolseley 1500 comes with a fabulous history from new. ARU 761B was distributed from Edwards & Co (Bournemouth) Ltd to dealership Gibsons Sports Cars (Christchurch) Ltd finished as today in Grey with Burgundy interior. The Wolseley was supplied new on the 24th July 1964 to a Mrs Frampton in Christchurch, Hampshire and the original green ‘buff’ logbook is still with the car, as is the original service book. The Wolseley has now covered 58600 miles from new, and the service book records the cars first eight services to 1971 when the car had covered 21227 miles with its lady owner.
The Wolseley has clearly never been left to deteriorate and get into a state where it required a major restoration. It has been well kept too, and steady use throughout its life has ensured the car retains a good level of originality. The Wolseley has had just five owners from new, and over the last decade it has been very much on the classic car show scene. ARU 761B has arrived with us absolutely on the button and there are recent invoices for a full service and good general upkeep.
On the road the Wolseley is a delight to drive, the engine is strong, healthy and pulls very well. The gear changes are smooth with excellent syncro's, the car pulls up straight, handles very nicely and feels very solid on the road. It has covered around 5000 miles in the past 14 years, regularly used for shows, events and rallies. It's a strong, reliable, usable classic that has clearly been very well maintained throughout its life. The Wolseley is structurally excellent underneath, it still retains its steel wings, and the bodywork and panels are straight. The car has been painted at some points in its lifetime, its well-presented, not perfect but certainly more than acceptable. The brightwork is of a very good standard, the interior delightful and the engine bay very well presented. On the whole, a low mileage, low ownership very honest car that's very sensibly priced.
