As its chassis number confirms, this 190 SL left the Mercedes factory in 1958. Our client bought it in 2001 from an enthusiast in the Loire who had owned it since 1996. A demanding enthusiast, he decided to take the car to Provost Automobiles in Le Mans for a complete restoration, which began in 2007. The car was completely stripped down, the body taken back to bare metal, treated and then repainted in a flattering shade of 'Strawberry Red' (DB 3546RD). The work on the body is of excellent quality, with well aligned panels and paintwork to the highest standards. The original engine was completely stripped down and rebuilt, receiving in the process a slight increase in power as well as Weber carburettors and electronic ignition. The gearbox, rear axle and running gear were also stripped down and rebuilt. The attractive, lightly patinated cream upholstery was kept, while the carpets were replaced and are now protected by over mats. To make the car more comfortable and pleasant to drive, power steering was fitted, together with a smaller diameter steering wheel (the original will also be supplied), and a wind deflector. This superb example comes with a substantial file of invoices, with a summary of the expenditure amounting to nearly 94, 000 €. Equipped with a hardtop and little used since this high-quality restoration, this 190 SL is ready to cover many miles on the road, which will be all the more enjoyable thanks to these judicious technical improvements.
