Description

Motodrome are pleased to offer this 1965 Jaguar Mark II 3. 4 manual with overdrive, finished in Red with light grey full leather and wood interior.

Prepared to ‘fast road’ specification by the last owner, with new enamel wire wheels shod with a matching set of near-new Avon 205/ 70 R15 tyres, Coombes-style sports rear spats, 1in lower ride height, Coopercraft front brakes, and pancake air filters.

Also fitted with stainless exhaust, woodrim Astrali steering wheel, original period radio, modern inertia reel front seat belts, and the very rare optional reclining seats.

Chassis 169044DN is an original RHD example, first registered 9th July 1965, and is a matching-number example that started life as a 3. 4 manual with overdrive, not a conversion from a 2. 4 or automatic as many are. This is the real thing.

Odometer reading 97000 miles.

It appears to have been restored in 1983, and, unlike most 1980’s restorations, the panel gaps and shut lines are exceptionally good, especially the doors which shut with a satisfying clunk and haven’t dropped. The fit of the sports rear spats is, al always, rather more questionable. .

The last owner found it stored in a neighbour’s garage in early 2022 and it had apparently been there since 2006, so needed total recommissioning. He’s done a superb job here including replacing the entire braking system, rebuilding the steering rack, fitting new wheels and tyres, new ignition system, and of course all fluids and filters changed, and I can confirm it drives superbly

Body and paintwork wise, as it was last painted 40 years ago, there are a few blemishes now, as you’d expect. It’s no trailer queen or concours contender, instead it’s a MKII that can be driven as intended, whether you’re making a fast getaway from a bank raid, or crashing through a carelessly-placed stack of cardboard boxes…but it is priced accordingly.

Interior-wise, we think it’s pretty original, certainly in terms of the leather, which has a few cracks in the front seats. The door cards, carpets and headlining have likely been replaced, as they don’t quite look nearly 60 years old. The wood has plenty of cracks and splinters in the laquer, but still looks OK

Chromework – probably original, hence some patination and pitting but still pretty fine.

Mechanically – really strong as above, and in standard early 3. 4 spec (with the exception of the upgrades previously mentioned) ie Moss gearbox, no power steering etc.

For a MKII for road use, it ticks plenty of boxes – it’s quick, stops properly, handles a bit more tautly, and sounds great too, without being so nice you wouldn’t want to leave it anywhere. It’s one that you can use on a regular basis and possibly gradually improve as time and funds allow.

On our own website, you’ll find our usual two videos: a walkaround appraisal, and driving impressions, which form part of the description..

NB I mentioned at the start of the driving video that the overdrive wasn’t working. It’s fine, the car just needed to warm up a bit first..

NNB – since the videos were shot, the car has spent a fair bit of time in our workshop being extensively fettled, including
• Electrical and charging system overhaul inc new battery
• Rebuilt exhaust including new manifold gaskets and a new pair of stainless steel downpipes
• New diff, gearbox and overdrive oil
• Steering wheel realigned

Based Henley-on-Thames – viewing by prior appointment.
