Beschreibung
Indeed, this is an Australian-delivered Beetle that was traded at a local VW dealership, K. S Motors of Mooroopna (a suburb of Shepparton, Victoria), then run by our vendor. He then sold it to a local but later reacquired it, on the promise of giving the ’63 Beetle a full restoration.
Now known in the family as “Tweetie Pie” (complete with cartoon graphic on the rear and statue on the parcel shelf), the Beetle was indeed restored to original condition, reflecting how it would have been when it first hit Australia’s roads.
Wearing beautiful Apple Green paint – a very period colour – this older restoration sits on a set of steel wheels with the correct chrome hubcaps; likewise, what body brightwork there is, is in equally pristine condition.
Inside, the Beetle retains its original red and white vinyl trim on the seats and doorcards, but wears new headlining and black non-factory carpets, fitted over the original rubber floor mats.
The dashboard houses a neat period-looking push button radio, too, while a set of crocheted red-and-white seat covers knitted by the owner’s wife complete the lovely interior!
In the boot there’s a reproduction accessory bamboo parcel tray with a tartan cloth covering to stop items rolling around, while out back, the original engine has been replaced by a new 1200cc air-cooled flat four built by Volkspower.
A suite of books completes the car, though the maintenance manual is missing.
That non-original engine takes nothing away from this otherwise very original, nicely restored, 1963 Volkswagen Beetle. It’s road ready to just jump in and enjoy.
