We are delighted to present for sale this Land Rover® 110 Defender, which is a rare and sought after XS model which comes FULLY loaded with every extra available at the time of build. Based on the paperwork, this vehicle appears to have been a new “54 Reg” showroom model – being registered on the first day of the new numberplate for that year, September 1st. We are very fond of these vehicles as John Brown Sr’s very first proper Land Rover® was a 2002 XS like this one in Java Black – so we are well versed in them!

Externally, this has all the items one wanting a top specification Defender 110 might want – Metallic Java Black paintwork, boost alloys, side steps for the front two pairs of doors, alpine lights, rear sliding windows, spare mounted on the rear door, towbar with electrics etc etc. The XS model was expensive when new – and indeed some of the TDCI later Defenders don’t have the options fitted that this one does…. as I am sure the photos show, this wouldn’t look out of place either in the middle of a city, or out on the shoot or farm – and that is the joy of these models.

On the inside is where things get exciting though, with a raft of extras that wouldn’t be out of place in your modern car today…. electric windows, heated seats, XS Half Leather seats throughout, electric front and rear heated windscreens, air conditioning, immobiliser, ABS, traction control, interior lighting which comes on when you open the doors, child locks so you can carry children safely, remote central locking (with two sets of keys with remotes even!), Stereo & Speakers, Power Steering – the list just goes on, and on, and on. Everything – and we mean everything – works as it should too. We actually went to collect this vehicle from the previous owner who was based near Leeds Bradford Airport – and it drove back without fault. Seat belts are provided for the first and second row of seats, alongside a cubby box with cup holders – seating for 9 in comfort is easy. Another handy feature is the ability to quickly fold away the rear four seats, alongside the second row which folds into its own footwell – this means no matter what you carry – from luggage, to a sofa, to a garden shed – it’s going in the back no problem.

Out on the road, this 90 feels like a modern car to drive – five speed gearbox, power steering, your own music on the stereo – just a complete joy. We have given this vehicle a fresh service (which has filled the final space in the original warranty book) which included oil and filters, along with fuel filter too – so it is ready to enjoy. Our journey home involved all kinds of road – B road, A Road & the A1(M) – no problem for this machine whatsoever. The mileage is pretty low for the year too, and it comes with a substantial history file of old receipts as well as MOTs and the all important service paperwork. What sets this 110 apart from others is that if you look online – the vast majority have been modified, tuned, or changed from their original layout – not so with this one – which is exactly as it left the factory in 2004. This is the real attraction as modifying them can cause problems in the longer term – it has been cared for as one would hope with just 3 former keepers and the previous owner has owned it since 2009 and used it as his every day car since.

In summary then, if you like the idea of a “Modern Classic” Land Rover® for all the family – this surely has to be worth considering. With the ability to carry 9 people in the absolute maximum amount of comfort Land Rover® have ever been able to provide in the Defender era up to 2015 – it simply is not possible to drive a better one… and once you do, there is no going back to lesser models. We have priced this competitively based on not only what a Defender 110 sells for but also considering the XS Station Wagon specification, so we don’t see it being in stock for long.
