Moto Guzzi was established in 1921 by three friends from the Italian Air Corps and is Europes oldest motorcycle manufacturer in continuous production, based in the same factory in Mandello del Lario overlooking Lake Como ever since. Always innovative they were very successful in Grand Prix racing with products as diverse as the 350cc horizontal single that won five world championships in a row to the incredible 500c V8. The Lodola, featuring a lightweight 175cc OHC single cylinder engine was company founder and original designer Carlo Guzzi's last design before his death in the early 1960s.
This well presented Lodola has been part of a Moto Guzzi enthusiast private collection for the last few years. Dated as a 1957/ 58 model it is Moto Giro d’Italia eligible in the Rievocazione Storica or Historic re-enactment class. Purchased by a previous owner in 2006, he then gave it a full engine/ gearbox and mechanical overhaul including a rebore, new piston, new bearings and seals throughout in preparation for the 2008 Giro d’Italia. The bike has since completed 3 more Moto Giro events and the Colombres Rally. It has only had light use under current ownership since 2021, taking part in VMCC and Guzzi Club events, the vendor reports it would benefit from a front fork overhaul with a new bronze bushes kit provided. Included is a restoration record with photos, some receipts and spares, old MOTs, owners, workshop and parts manuals, useful operation notes from the current owner and Lodola enthusiast. and a V5C.
