A MkII, it was first registered on 14th May 1962. Finished in Old English White and purchased by the vendor in October 2005 from an RAF officer based at RAF Leeming, it was brought out of storage sometime later and the whole car was stripped down and necessary repairs carried out.

Mechanical parts were all replaced where necessary and upgraded. The engine was overhauled with cylinder head ports reshaped and polished and fitted with a 'fast road cam'. All other mechanicals were checked at this time and items replaced as necessary. The exhaust manifold was replaced with a fast-type and treated with 'Camcoat' to dissipate heat in the engine compartment. In addition, transmission was removed and fitted with Ford-type 5 speed gearbox, brakes and suspension.

The car was painted throughout in Old English White. Interior trim and carpets were re-trimmed as original, Black hood and side screens have all been replaced. This car is one of the last MkII MGAs to be built with the 1622cc engine, as the MGB was launched later in that year of 1962. The registration number '30 LAR' is included in the sale.

Introduced in March of 1961, the MGA 1600 MkII was the final, and fully-evolved, version of MG's popular sports car. Outwardly, the MkII received face-lifting around the grille and taillights, yet it retained the classic and elegant Roadster silhouette and dimensions. Under the hood lay the biggest change; some 10 more horsepower than the stand 1600. Intake valves were bigger, and compression up from 8. 3 to 8. 9 to 1. Acceleration was slightly better, while top speed raised to considerably over 100mph (107, factory rating). From the driver's view, there was little interior change, except for increased use of leather trim in the dash area. Handling characteristics remained as impressive as the earlier cars.
