GSY 48 is a perfect example of one of Hooper's popular limousine designs which was first presented at the Olympia Motor Show in 1932. Of upright and formal design, it features seating for six persons, including two patent Hooper occasional seats, wind up division, tool drawer beneath the driver's front bench seat and opening windscreen.
A very original & lovely car that we had the pleasure of selling some 14 years ago on behalf of the then second owner. I remember well driving it to Dover & handing it over dockside to the third owner (whom has recently passed away) who drove it to his chateau in France & registered it there where it has resided ever since seeing sparing but regular use.
This rolls royce 20/ 25 Hooper Limousine was ordered new by the Earl of Strafford & kept at the family seat Wrotham park in Hertforshire. The family kept the car until 1999 when it was sold to its second owner, one Stanley Cale who kept the car until 2014 when we sold it to the last owner.
The car really is a time warp with original black leather up front & hard wearing bedford cord to the rear. The interior is exactly as it left Hoopers premises with all interior fittings, door pulls, roll down blinds, rugs, hat rack, etc intact as when new. A luggage rack is fitted to the rear & the car retains its original Ace wheel discs.
The exterior is finished in Hooper dark prussian blue over black wings with the paint in nice lightly patinated order thoughout. The car was repainted in the 1980's when being recommissioned. The car has been garaged its entire life which has preserved it wonderfully. Under the bonnet the engine bay is original & tidy, the engine having been rebuilt in the 1980's after a long lay up following the death of the first onwer the Earl of Strafford in 1951 at which time the car had covered 82, 000 miles. We last sold it at 86, 000 miles & it has now just turned 90, 000 miles.
An immediate post war petrol requsition book comes with the car into which particulars of the journey & driver were entered; in one instance: Reason for Journey: To sit at the house of Lords. Occupation of Driver: Peer of the Relm.
We are about to collect the car from its current French home & bring it back to the UK. It is both UK registered & European registered meaning no taxes are due if it sells to Europe.
