PRINCIPAL FACTS:
Delivered in the summer of 1985 to its first owner, this 380 SL was used by its owner on the streets of Edinburgh for the first few years of its life, before work, or perhaps weather – for the opportunity to really enjoy the open SL in the sun – had it move south to England. Finished in Diamond Blue Metallic with beige leather upholstery and a blue fabric roof, this 380 SL has 102, 161 miles on its odometer, though its condition is such you’d believe us if we said it had just a third, or less, than that. Used, then, but well looked after in the near 40 years it’s been around, it comes with air conditioning, electric windows, headlight wipers, colour-coded and chrome wheels - which suit this car beautifully – and comes with its hardtop.
CONDITION SYNOPSIS:
A car that’s known to the SLSHOP, having been looked after under our CARE servicing plan by the current owner, everything is in order mechanically and cosmetically. The bodywork is straight and free of any corrosion, the chrome is bright and smooth, while lifting the bonnet reveals a clean engine bay that underlines its fastidious current owner.
The interior wears its 100, 000+ miles very well, though if we’re being particularly picky the driver’s side bolster could use a bit of a deep clean and perhaps some colouring – that being nothing a day with a leather specialist wouldn’t sort. Elsewhere inside it’s tidy, lifting the boot floor revealing a spare wheel which looks to be wearing its original Michelin tyre, that spare wheel almost certainly never having been used.
HISTORY FILE:
We like finding ring binders with paperwork, and that’s exactly what we have here – along with a nicely stamped service book. There’s lots of evidence, be it servicing receipts, old MOTs and registration documents outlining this car’s history, and certifying its mileage and obvious care. Most recently that’s been in our hands here at the SLSHOP, where C100 TLB’s been gone through bumper-to-chrome-bumper, to ensure everything is in order, and there’s plenty of receipts here underlining it very much is. The car was purchased from us by the current owner in 2018, bringing the total number of keepers up to just three. At the time of purchase the car was treated to a new soft top, among other things.
SLSHOP SUMMARY:
A car that’s been used, and now refreshed, ready for its next 40 years on the road. Diamond Blue Metallic looks great on the R107 SL, and it’s paired nicely with the perforated beige leather interior, dark dash top and wood trim in the centre console. This car’s perfect for someone looking for an easy, comfortable and enjoyable classic, affordable, too, as at this price we don’t expect this car to be with us for long. We’d perhaps replace the old Pioneer stereo for something with a bit of modern functionality/ connectivity but with a more fitting period look, and remove the mudflaps given the likelihood of summer-only motoring. Do that, before someone else does…
