Description
This XJ-S is an incredibly rare car, being 1 of just 350 manual Pre HE XJ-S cars ever built and according to the Jaguar Pre-HE register, is one of only 76 cars Worldwide recorded as survived. The manual Pre HE cars are difficult to find and are more scarce than a flat floor outside bonnet lock E-Type and tipped to be the next big thing with regards to collectable Jaguars.
Finished in the rare and desirable colour combination of Squadron Blue with Biscuit interior. The car is accompanied by an outstanding history file which contains older MOT certificates dating back to the early 1980's. There is within the service history, a Jaguar Heritage Certificate, passport to service book, drivers handbook and a large A4 binder full of various invoices for maintenance and service records dating back to August 1978. This particular car has been fitted with a Harvey Bailey anti roll bar kit, larger throttle bodies and an adjustable ECU supplied by the renowned AJ6 Engineering, a record of which is in the history.

1978 Jaguar XJ-S Pre HE and as stated a very rare factory manual gearbox car. First registered July 1978 and supplied by Henlys of Bournemouth, to Superior Seals Ltd of Wimborne Dorset. It appears in the history that the owner must have loved the car, as they kept it until around the early 1990's when it had covered 88, 251miles.
The car then moves to Maldon Essex were it had further love and attention lavished upon it, during its time in Essex the car had brake work, a clutch, general servicing, ignition work, fuel tank and fuel pump work.
The car then moves to Awbridge in Hampshire circa 1997, by this time the car has now covered 91, 000 miles. While at it's new home in Hampshire the car had more money and attention, plus some upgrades. The first of these upgrades was a Harvey Bailey anti roll bar kit, followed by AJ6 larger throttle bodies and an AJ6 adjustable ECU. Also while its time in Hampshire the car had a suspension rebuild, exhaust work, hub bearings, rack bushes, engine mounts, front crank seal, heads removed and decoked, plus new oil cooler and general servicing.
The car now moves to the Newcastle area, circa 2002 the car has now covered 94, 000 miles. Whilst in the North the car has a clutch slave cylinder, auxillary air valve, alloy wheels refurbished, ignition work, brake work, coolant hoses and general servicing.
Late 2005 and now showing 95, 000 miles the car moves to Manchester. While with it's new owner the car receives a new engine bay wiring loom, radiator and both cylinder heads are completely rebuilt by Gosnay's .
In 2007 the car moves to Southern Ireland, mileage is now circa 97, 000 miles. Whilst in Ireland a list of works begin. These works include new water pump, bonnet struts, oil pressure sender, new radius arm mounts, rear IRS rebuild, brake overhaul, new sills, new spax shocks, new door seals and general servicing
In 2023 the car is believed to have come back to the UK and resided in Warwickshire area, mileage at this time is believed to be just over 100, 000 miles. Little of it's time in Warkshire is known.
September 2024 the car arrives with me where work commences to save this rare car and make it usable.
Work done since October 2024.......
New fuel pump, fuel surge/ sump tank cleaned and fitted with a new internal filter.
New engine bay fuel filter and 12 new spark plugs.
New Lumintion Optronic electronic ignition system.
New Luminition plug leads.
New ignition coil.
New distributor cap.
Two new fuel pressure regulators and fuel pressure set.
Front seats rebuilt with new foams and diaphragms.
New interior head lining fitted.
New R/ H floor pan
Two new front jacking points.
Replaced both front wings along with front and rear front wing splash panels.
Both front lower quarter panels replaced.
Complete drivers door replaced.
Both lower rear wing quarters replaced.
Complete boot lid replaced.
New anti roll bar links and bushes.
New top and lower ball joints.
New front suspension coil spring bump stop.
Handbrake trim cover replaced.
New drivers door quarter glass seal fitted.
New chrome wheel nuts.
New electric aerial fitted.
Full paint-refresh.
A nice looking and rare manual XJS, which has been the subject of much recent expenditure circa £8, 000 not including labour. As well as major recommissioning ! After researching the less than handful of Pre HE manual cars for sale at present, I feel this car is offered at a very realistic price.
