When unveiled at the 1987 Frankfurt Motor Show, the Alfa Romeo 164 caused an absolute sensation for its striking styling and Twin Spark twin-cam engine. Penned by Pininfarina’s Enrico Fumia, its wedge-based linear body features a distinctive side groove that solidifies its aura of a velocious executive transporter. Interestingly, its aerodynamic coefficient was exploited by Alfa Corse, Brabhams and Dallara in the construction of Formula One ProCar that could reach speeds of over 340 km/ h with no body modifications. The 164's engine displayed heritage in its Nord traditional bialbero arrangement as well as Merosi's school of two-sparks-per-cylinder, first tested at Nicola Romeo’s very own A. L. F. A. 40/ 60 GP. Revised with latest technology, it incorporated innovative 2-stage valve timing and blade-type valve induction torque-oriented performance systems. The 164 was the last model created entirely by Alfa Romeo and thus characterized by a distinctive, uncompromised personality to be acknowledged and appreciated ever since by heritage enthusiasts including Enzo Ferrari himself.
The Alfa 164 offered was produced in 1991 in signature Rosso Alfa over Grigio velour interior to feature the electronically controlled AC and electric windows all around options. Since new it has been meticulously preserved as a piece of Alfa Romeo history to currently present with perfect factory coat of paint, original velour interior and equipment, original wheels and all manuals. Notably it retains the plastic protective films over its rear window cabin trim, passenger footwells and radio cover panel.
