MG PA SUPERCHARGED_1934 Introduced for the first time in 1934 with a new engine featuring a crankshaft for higher power output, the MG Midget type PA replaced the previous type J with numerous race-related improvements (stronger wheelbase chassis, improved transmission, stronger engine, 12-inch brakes, etc.).
The PA therefore had a more sporting vocation and was used extensively in off-road events and rallies; it took part in the Le Mans 24H00 in 1935, winning the event in its class and finishing 9th overall. This is a magnificent and rare example in France, completely restored and made reliable, that I am putting up for sale (cause recent vehicles to buy for my children): an MG PA Supercharged number 0268 put on the road in November 1934. Le Mans Classic eligible model. Attestation Fédération Française des Véhicules d'Epoque (FFVE).
Technical inspection OK (FFVE-approved centre). French collector's registration document (appreciable when you consider the complexity and cost of importing a vehicle of this type, especially from the UK outside the EU). Maintenance guide, mechanical guide. Well-maintained vehicle, pleasant to drive once mastered, ideal for classic rallies, drives on small roads, concours d'élégance, and which leaves absolutely no one indifferent as it passes.
Exterior: Smoked blue bodywork in excellent condition, with a few minor marks from regular use. No corrosion. Very good alignment. Chrome in excellent condition. Original honeycomb radiator grille (later models will have vertical blades), and "race"-type quick-release radiator cap. Race"-type wings too (not the wraparound models that are more common and heavier on P-type tourers). Spoked wheels with butterfly valves Tyres in good condition, medium wear. Spare wheel, new WAYMASTER tyre. New folding windscreen (laminated glass, compulsory on some rallies), new Brooklands windscreens. New custom-made soft top and tonneau cover (dark blue). Custom-made leather bonnet straps from an English workshop. Beautiful old-fashioned Maillefaud number plates (embossed aluminium). Magnificent Lucas headlights with protective grilles.
Attractive period grille badge. Underbody: Fully restored: wooden floorboards, copper hoses, treated and painted chassis... New exhaust system (the old Abingdon English car actually roars quite loudly!). No corrosion (sleeps under cover in a heated garage). Towing eye at the front (in case of need). Under the bonnet: 4-cylinder, 847 cm3 engine, restored; seals and hoses changed.
SU carburettor overhauled and tuned. Volumex compressor completely overhauled, adding liveliness and power (pressure gauge on dashboard). Revised decompression valve. Tailor-made compressor cover (removable). Additional Kenlowe-type fan (with on/ off control on dashboard). 2 fuel pumps recently checked. New wiring harness, recent spark plugs (extra set supplied), new NGK coil, electronic ignition (for easier starting). Braking correct, on line, as expected for a vehicle of this age. Steering adjusted very satisfactorily.
Radiator tightness checked, new drain plug, racing-style radiator cap (closing lever rebuilt in solid aluminium, stronger than the original alloy). Interior: 2-seater model (the 4-seater model has a chassis known to degrade roadholding and make the vehicle heavier). Upholstery, doors, wine-coloured carpeting restored to immaculate condition, matching the wheels and bonnet strap. Burr walnut dashboard, operational equipment. Typical MG hexagonal counters and compression gauge. MG Jubilee dashboard badge. Note the space between the seats and the fuel tank for a tool kit, jerrycan, travel bag or cabin suitcase (not insignificant for an escapade). As a bonus: 2 pairs of Léon Jantet Aviator goggles (with clear and tinted lenses), 1 Thor leather/ copper butterfly hammer, 1 Sparco 2L stainless steel fire extinguisher fitted to the passenger seat, a set of spare spark plugs, several fluid cans, etc. Photos speak louder than words, so don't hesitate to ask me for more if you're really interested. SELLING PRICE: 64, 000 euros
