Model history summary: The Alfa Romeo Montreal, produced between 1970 and 1977, is a sports car with a singular history. Initially presented as a concept at Expo 67 in Montreal, it had no official name. The concept, designed by Marcello Gandini at Bertone, used a 1. 6-litre engine and the chassis of the Giulia Sprint GT. The production version, unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 1970, evolved significantly. It featured a 2. 6-litre V8 derived from that of the Alfa Tipo 33 prototypes, developing around 200 bhp. In terms of design, the Montreal was distinguished by its four headlamps partially covered by movable grilles, a dummy NACA duct on the bonnet and mainly decorative louvres behind the doors. Despite its bold styling and performance, its high price made it less accessible than rivals such as the Jaguar E-Type.
