Lot 78

c. 1966 BSA 249cc C15
Registration no. HON 607D
Frame no. C15. 2414
Engine no. TR25W2255 (see text)
In September 1958 BSA introduced a new '250' that would provide the basis for an entire range of singles in capacities up to 500cc. This newcomer, the C15, featured a compact overhead-valve engine with unitary four-speed gearbox, which was housed in a conventional cradle frame with bolt-on rear subframe. Alternator electrics and coil ignition were advanced features, early models being distinguished by a distributor-type points housing.

The current owner purchased this C15 from an online auction in February 2023; it was a bike he had wanted in his youth but could never afford. Fitted with a 250cc Triumph engine, the machine had already been restored but needed finishing. Since acquisition our vendor has cleaned the brightwork, sorted the wiring, fitted an isolator, and added indicators and pillion footrests. Other notable features include 12-volt electrics, a new silencer, and a chromed headlight intended to make the C15 look like a Starfire. It should be noted that the speedometer has been replaced so the mileage covered from new is unknown. It should also be noted that the HPI database records the previous colour as Green. Used sparingly and last run in the summer of 2024, the BSA is only offered for sale as the vendor is thinning out his collection.

The machine is offered with a current V5C Registration Certificate and HPI Vehicle History Check (March 2025), and also comes with a detached front numberplate and a BSA Owners Handbook. Prospective purchasers should satisfy themselves with regard to the originality, authenticity and correctness of this Lot prior to bidding.

All lots are sold 'as is/ where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams Motorcycles website for all pertinent auction information.
