Every car manufacturer worth its salt was churning out one great car after another at the height of competition. This was also the golden age of muscle cars in America before the oil embargo thrust the industry intothe Malaise era.
Pointiac was one of the front-runners in the market, with great cars like the GTO, Lemans, and the Grand Prix. In 1967, the marque launched the very first Pontiac Firebird, which took birth to compete against the Ford Mustang pony car. launched five months after the legendary Camaro, the 1967 Pontiac Firebird then went on for a 35-year-long production cycle.

Classic car collectors and old-school gearheads certainly hold reverence for the Firebird that started it all.
1n 1967, Pontiac sent the brand new Firebird to dealerships for the first time, and — like the Mustang — it was an instant hit, with 82, 560 Firebirds heading out to new owners. Although Ford sold more than five times that many Mustangs in 1967, the first-year Firebird sales came close to matching those of the Mustang in its inaugural model year.
So there you have it folks... the F-i-r-e-b-i-r-d - Remember that name. It's one species of Pontiac you may regret 'fouling' around with.
