Description

Introduced in 1962, the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III marked the final evolution of the iconic Silver Cloud series, representing the pinnacle of traditional Rolls-Royce engineering before the arrival of the Silver Shadow. Retaining the proven 6. 2-litre V8 engine, it featured important refinements such as improved carburation, a higher compression ratio, and the now-distinctive quad headlamp arrangement, giving the car a more modern presence while maintaining its classic elegance.
The Silver Cloud III offered enhanced interior comfort, more responsive performance, and a smoother ride than its predecessors. Built in limited numbers and frequently ordered with bespoke coachwork, these cars have become some of the most coveted post-war Rolls-Royces, particularly the rare long-wheelbase variants, often reserved for the marque’s most discerning clientele.
A masterpiece of British motoring heritage, this exquisite 1965 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III Long-Wheelbase Saloon is one of just 32 examples bodied by the esteemed coachbuilder James Young of Bromley, widely regarded as their finest work at the twilight of bespoke craftsmanship.
Commissioned in 1964 and delivered in 1965 through H R Owen to S Osband & Company of Piccadilly, the car was originally finished in Oxford Blue and specified without division, but with an exceptional level of bespoke detail: electrically operated Reuter front seats, picnic tables and footrests in the rear, and a centre armrest with lid, all underscoring the car’s original purpose as a discreet yet luxurious London conveyance.
Painstakingly restored between 2004 – 2006 by renowned specialists Frank Dale & Stepsons to concours standards, this Silver Cloud was reborn in Tudor Grey with a hand-trimmed interior in leather-piped West of England cloth, and fully rejuvenated mechanicals, chrome, and woodwork. Modern comforts have been subtly integrated, including central locking, colour-matched seatbelts, power front seats, discreet air conditioning, and a tastefully incorporated in-dash stereo system.
The car has been in the ownership of Jamiroquai frontman and esteemed car enthusiast Jay Kay for the past four years. Since its restoration, it has seen only limited use and has been maintained to an exceptional standard, primarily serving for chauffeured trips into London. It is accompanied by two comprehensive history folios detailing its restoration and maintenance, along with the original user manual containing a meticulously handwritten service history dating back to its initial delivery. Altogether, this makes it one of the finest and most thoroughly documented examples of its kind.
A rare opportunity to acquire a James Young-bodied long-wheelbase Silver Cloud III in show-quality condition, this is a Rolls-Royce that not only exemplifies craftsmanship and refinement but also offers effortless usability in today’s world.
