According to the data card, this Pagoda was produced on 26 November 1970 and soon left Germany for the USA. First registered in 1971, the SL remained in sunny Florida for around 50 years until its return to Germany, which was obvious once the bodywork had been stripped. The restoration work was subsequently carried out in full by a German specialist restoration company. After the complete paintwork, renewal of the interior, the soft top and the tyres, the engine, gearbox and differential etc. were overhauled. After the restoration, the Pagoda was only driven a maximum of 500 kilometres for test drives, after which we sold it to a collector of classic Ferraris about 3 years ago, who has only driven it 2, 300 kilometres to date. Modified at his request with a new, absolutely perfectly shiftable GETRAG 6-speed gearbox*) and adjustable KONI shock absorbers, this Pagoda develops unprecedented driving dynamics! Nothing is reminiscent of the tired and, above all, noisy 4-speed 280SL delivered ex works. Other special requests included baroque rims (see photo 2 / 9), a removable wind deflector, automatic seat belts and the interior door panelling has now been converted to European standards (see photo 3 / 4 / 5). We will be presenting a new photo series shortly! A perfect "daily driver" that is not only extremely dynamic, but also very relaxed to drive. The classic is in perfect condition, no driving in the rain, no service jams, only one driver! The baroque rims can also be replaced with steel rims/ wheel caps on request. Air conditioning can also be retrofitted by our Pagoda specialists for an extra charge! )* GETRAG 6-SPEED SHIFT TRANSMISSION In the 70s and 80s, AMG converted some Pagodas W113, 109 and 107 to manual transmission with Getrag gearboxes. Getrag was already a gearbox supplier to Porsche and BMW in the 70s. This gearbox gave the Pagoda unprecedented driving dynamics. Short shift travel, perfect gear ratios whether you are lazy or sporty. It can be driven at significantly lower revs, which saves fuel and considerably reduces the background noise inside the Pagoda.
