Here we have for sale this 2000 “P38” Range Rover, finished in Alvestone Red. This is a 2. 5L Diesel “SE” Model, with many creature comforts – heated seats, heated screens, Harmon Kardon Stereo, Electric Windows, Electric Sun Roof, etc etc – many of the items this vehicle had in 2000 “as standard” are not fitted to new 2025 models today!
Externally, as the photos show, the bodywork has survived the years well. There are the usual dinks, dents and scuffs that one would expect to find on a 25 year old, original vehicle that hasn’t been messed with, but we think it looks in keeping – we do not want to talk it down too much, and we don’t think these items would bother a new owner who plans to buy it to use and enjoy. Of course, there are those amongst you who want pristine bodywork – and with a day of SMART style Dent repair, that could be achieved.. or even an “at-home” DIY weekend project. We really think these P38s are aging well – becoming very “Classic Cool” & they attract much attention when out in town, or out on the country roads.
On the inside, one steps inside and wonders why someone would walk into a showroom today and splurge £100k+ on a comparable vehicle of this type (which will depreciate horrendously too, which isn’t the case here) – with leather heated seats, electric windows, sun roof and mirrors, Harmon Kardon stereo system which gives a good sound even by todays’ standards, cruise control, dual zone climate control, etc etc. It is nice to see a receipt in the paperwork for a recent air conditioning service, which means it blows cold air even on during the current heatwave weather. A P38 owners manual is in the glovebox in the original leather “Land Rover” binder, which is great to see – these are almost always missing. There is even what appears to be an OEM Dog Guard fitted – handy if you do have some furry pals to carry. There are no lights on and there are two working central locking key fobs – which is always welcome as one is almost always missing and/ or faulty.
The Diesel unit is a BMW derivative and is much smoother than one expects – the automatic gearbox also shifts well and this Range Rover is more than happy doing the legal maximum speeds allowed on the UK Roads – at the time of writing this advert, the road on which we are situated is being subjected to a large construction project and so our usual test route cannot be used as the road is closed in that direction…. and so, we are forced immediately out onto the dual carriageway in both directions – and this Range Rover happily went out there and sat at 70mph with no dramas. Although this vehicle already has a current MOT, we will be supplying this vehicle with 12 months MOT from an independent garage to the new owner without cost, for peace of mind for both us and the buyer. There are receipts and old MOTs in the pack showing care and attention, which is nice to see and not always a given. Being a 2000 model year, the road tax is also much more reasonable than 2001 on, which can be up to £760 a year due to a recent law change! These are less than half that figure at just £360 a year.
If you are looking for a Classic Land Rover, but cannot stomach a vehicle without creature comforts, then these P38s are a great option. Recent transactions show us people have begun to understand their desirability.. with residuals on the rise, now is the time to get into one of these. We think these represent outstanding value ESPECIALLY when one considers when buying this from us, it comes with an in-house “proper” 3 month major mechanical warranty… which is not true of the ones on sites such as eBay!
