JAGUAR XK120 ROADSTER "SPECIAL EQUIPMENT" – 1953
This outstanding 1953 Jaguar XK120 Roadster "Special Equipment" is one of the most iconic examples of post-war British sports cars.
Built on August 21, 1953, it was originally destined for the U. S. market and was first registered in California in 1954.
According to original documentation from 1986, provided by Jaguar Export Service, this car has been preserved in its original factory configuration, with matching engine, chassis numbers, and color combination.
The XK120 "Special Equipment" (SE) was a performance-enhanced version of the standard model, featuring:
• High-compression cylinder head
• Twin sports exhaust
• Upgraded SU carburetors
• Stiffer suspension
• Increased output to approx. 180 HP (compared to 160 HP in standard models)
The car was imported to Italy in 1986 in good condition and underwent a two-year full restoration, leading to its first Italian registration on May 20, 1988.
Since then, the car has been part of a prestigious private collection. It is now offered for sale due to the limited use and advanced age of its owner.
Accompanied by fascinating historical correspondence and extensive documentation, the car has received several certifications over the years:
• December 28, 1987 – FIVA International Identity Card
• February 18, 1988 – ASI Technical Specification Certificate
• May 20, 1988 – Italian registration
• May 15, 1997 – ACI–CSAI Historic Identity Form
• June 15, 2022 – ASI Certificate of Historical Relevance
• July 1, 2024 – Listed as a historic vehicle on the Italian registration document
Despite its restoration dating back nearly four decades, the vehicle remains in good condition, both aesthetically and mechanically.
A rare, documented, and authentic collector’s item ready to be enjoyed and preserved.
