THE MG TF
Following WWII, the returning young men were looking for any means to get the adrenalin flowing, and sports cars were one thing that would fit the bill. Using what was essentially a prewar design, MG's TC was regarded as the quintessential British sports car. Its great handling would appeal to the U. S. market, so the firm made the successor, the TD of 1949, available in left hand drive. It offered independent front suspension, rack-and-pinion steering, and disc wheels, and in 1952, MG became the best-selling import in America.
After the TD came the TF; the new model was given an evolutionary makeover, with a swept-back radiator grille and more sweeping fenders with the headlights fitted in for greatly improved aerodynamics and a more modern aesthetic. Mechanically, the new TF model was TD-based, using the same XPAG 1, 250cc engine, but with valve and carburetor improvements.
MG's TF was the final iteration of the T-series cars, but their importance cannot be understated as they formed the foundation for the sports car movement in America.
THE CAR OFFERED
Presented in striking red over camel leather, this stunning 1955 MG TF is a beautifully restored example of one of MG's most iconic models. Powered by its original, numbers matching 1, 250cc four-cylinder engine with dual SU side-draft carburetors and a four-speed manual gearbox, this car underwent a no-expense-spared, nut and bolt restoration to concours-quality standards. The undercarriage and engine bay are fully detailed, and it comes equipped with a Motolita wood steering wheel, Lucas headlights with front-mounted driving lights, full tonneau cover. and a full tan cloth convertible top with restored side curtains.
This TF also has vintage racing pedigree, including a 1978 New England Trials Second Place trophy (car #33) and a 1986 Meadowbrook Historic Race plaque, with corresponding photo. A British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate, restored under-hood toolkit, and a substantial file of restoration receipts are included. An impressive MG that is reported to run well as the look implies.
