THE CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z06
In the early 2000s, Chevrolet revived a long-forgotten option code for a new, driver-focused Corvette performance package Z06. First seen in 1963, the Z06 was a special option for competition-minded buyers, buried deep in the catalogue as to not garner too much attention from GM's top brass, who enacted a total ban on racing activity. The option code reappeared in 2001 on the C5 generation as a nod to its 60's forbearer, and featured a boost in power, upgraded suspension, and a lighter, stiffer bodyshell.
Subsequent iterations of the Z06 upped the game significantly drawing heavily from GM's successful Corvette Racing Le Mans, ALMS, and IMSA programs, with the Z06 acting as the homologation special. Increasingly focused on driver involvement, light weight, and handling, the Z06 has matured into a world-class driver's car, akin to an American iteration of the Porsche GT3.
That tradition continues with the latest mid-engine C8 generation of Corvettes. From 2023-onward, Corvette engineers shoved the LT6 V8 engine behind the seats an uncharacteristically high-tech engine with a flat-plane crank, double overhead cams, and 32 valves. At a stonking 670bhp, it nips AMG for the crown of most powerful naturally aspirated V8 on the market. Chassis upgrades include magnetic adaptive damping, optional carbon brakes, and an electronic limited slip differential. Offered in both coupe and convertible guise, the Z06 brings LeMans proven technology to the street.
THE CAR OFFERED
This 2023 Corvette Z06 Convertible in 3LZ trim is one of the examples built to celebrate the 70th anniversary of release of the Corvette in 1953. Offered with little more than delivery miles, this car has covered just 62 miles from new to the time of cataloguing, and naturally in excellent condition. The angular and aggressive C8 styling looks particularly good in this shade of White Pearl Metallic Tricoat, which is match by a Ceramic White with red stitching interior.
The accompanying window sticker shows this car came very well equipped with a litany of options totaling $24, 050. In addition to the 3LZ trim package, this car features carbon ceramic disc brakes, Level 2 carbon interior trim, the 70th Anniversary Edition package, and much more.
With just double-digit mileage on the clock, this presents an excellent opportunity to beat the wait and acquire a near-new Corvette Z06 70th Anniversary and savor one of the greatest of all home-grown American sports cars.
All lots are sold 'as is/ where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams|Cars website for all pertinent auction information.
