A very fine example of the Jaguar MK2 3. 8L, 1962 model year. It has the peculiarity of having been prepared for reliable daily use, including: power steering, 5-speed Getrag gearbox, front brake calipers with 4 pistons, Koni gas-filled shock absorbers, engine oil cooler kit, reinforced anti-roll bar, high-performance starter, high-flow cooling fan, stainless steel exhaust system...
Newly delivered on 4 January 1962 in California, where it was restored in the 2000s; it then went to Germany and was purchased in 2007 by the current owner.
The Garnet colour, not original, gives it a very particular charm, especially in sunlight where it reveals its full brilliance.
The bodywork is of good quality, fairly well preserved. The gaps around the openings are satisfactory according to the expert.
No corrosion was found on the sills, longitudinals and floors.
The interior is well presented. The seats, door cards and dashboard are in very good condition. The headlining has no major defects.
The instrumentation is functional.
On the engine side, the current owner installed a 4. 2-litre engine block fed by twin SU carburettors. The car therefore benefits from a more powerful displacement for greater smoothness and comfort. The original 3. 8L Matching Number engine is sold separately from the car and has been fully restored by a specialist.
The 4. 2L block has been opened for a full rebuild. The road test during the appraisal confirmed its good running.
It is fitted with a 5-speed Getrag gearbox. The clutch kit has been completely replaced in 2009.
The rear suspension system has been modified (replacing the leaf springs). The braking system is much more capable than the original.
The car is maintained in a workshop specialising in classic British cars.
A slightly more powerful displacement than original (but with the option to revert to the car’s original 3. 8L for more versatility), a gearbox renowned for its efficiency, power-assisted steering and a revised suspension system… Like many owners, this one wanted to turn his MK2 into an easy daily driver without worrying about reliability at every outing.
