Older KCA restoration
One of 521
As with other famous 2-seater roadsters of this era, it was the US importer for European brands, Max Hoffman, who is to thank for the open version of the Aurelia.
Initially built for one year as the “Spider America,” the car was fundamentally redesigned in 1956 and from then on marketed as the “Convertibile.”
The design is considered one of the most beautiful, if not the most beautiful, ever to come from Pininfarina.
The advanced drivetrain with the silky-smooth V6 engine and the innovative transaxle design was adopted from the sedan.
The “Convertibile”, which was designed for greater long-distance suitability, was given, among other things, larger door cutouts for easier entry and exit, crank windows instead of plug-in windows and a significantly simplified roof mechanism.
Despite the comparatively high new price, 521 units were sold in two years. However, 50 new cars sank in the Atlantic with the Andrea Doria in 1956.
Our vehicle was restored several years ago by the renowned Lancia workshop “KCA” near Milan.
The Lancia delivery information confirms “matching numbers” of the engine and chassis.
