Description
History:
From Italy to Great Britain, or the ‘car with personality’, was hand-built in a limited edition of just 546 units. Thanks to its rustproof fibreglass and aluminium body, a relatively large number of these vehicles are still on the market today. The bodywork is hard to beat in terms of individuality and character, which is mainly due to the ambitious plan to build the most aerodynamic coupé – which was achieved with a CW value of 0. 36 and made the Type R capable of speeds over 200 km/ h. This example was completely restored just over 10 years ago by THE Jensen expert and rebuilt with original parts in almost every detail. The Aston Martin's competitor was thus also equipped for the future, and up to 5 times cheaper.
Bodywork and paintwork:
The fibreglass and aluminium bodywork was professionally restored at great expense and given a high-quality paint finish. The gunmetal grey suits the Jensen perfectly and is still in immaculate condition today, more than 10 years after the restoration.
Interior:
The elegant, vegetable-tanned full leather emphasises the classy coupé – and you feel very comfortable. It may be a little cramped for the rear passengers in the back seats, but the coupé is actually intended more for visiting elegant friends, going to a nice restaurant or attending a concert. Everything is original, from the steering wheel to the heating controls.
Engine and mechanics:
The 6-cylinder engine has torque in abundance. One cylinder has almost the capacity of a wine bottle, which not only makes the engine powerful, but also virtually indestructible. The clutch and transmission have also been overhauled. Oil loss is negligible by British standards, which proves the precision of the mechanical work. The entire technology undergoes a major inspection and a fresh MOT test before delivery.
Chassis:
With independent front suspension and four disc brakes, the Jensen was the first four-seater coupé with this advanced braking technology. As part of the restoration, the chassis and brake system were completely overhauled and continuously maintained.
Driving experience:
The Jensen 541R is as exclusive as an Aston Martin DB2, with styling cues from the Mercedes Benz 300SL and Lancia Aurelia, which make this sports coupé exciting time and time again. You don't just feel this when you look at it, you also experience the design while driving. At a cruising speed of 100 km/ h, the engine runs at less than 2, 000 rpm, which promises a very high level of comfort with relatively low fuel consumption.
Recommendation:
Owning one of 193 examples is a guarantee of value retention. But the exclusive coupé is even more recommendable for the road. For connoisseurs of a fine British car in the five-figure price range, a restored Jensen 541R can be recommended at any time.
