History of the model and trivia
The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, also known as the Lancer Evo or simply Evo, is the sports version of the Mitsubishi Lancer produced from 1992 to 2016 by Mitsubishi Motors Corporation. Ten versions were produced, and the numerical designation is given by a Roman numeral. Evolution models up to V formed the base rally car used by Mitsubishi in the Group A of the World Rally Championship, which they won four times from 1996 to 1999. To meet current regulations, the rally version prepared by Ralliart was based on the road-going model, although in reality the bodyshell was the only thing they shared.
In the Evo VI, the biggest changes were to cooling and engine longevity. It received a larger intercooler, a bigger oil-cooling device and new pistons. In the RS, for the first time in a mass-produced car, the turbocharger was made from a titanium/ aluminium alloy. The exterior styling was also slightly altered: the large fog lights of the Evo V were reduced in size and moved further out to increase the intercooler mouth. In addition to the two existing ones, a new variant joined, the RS2, which was essentially an RS with some GSR options. With the Evo VI there were several limited editions: the RS Sprint, tuned by Ralliart for the English market, characterised by reduced weight and higher power (increasing from 280 to 330 hp) and the well-known Lancer Evo VI Tommi Makinen Edition (T. M. E), produced in 1999 in honour of Finnish driver Tommi Makinen, to celebrate winning a fourth consecutive World Rally Championship driver title. It featured a different front bumper, black and red Recaro seats with the Tommi Makinen logo embossed, white 17
