The Td5-powered Defender 90 remains one of the most sought-after iterations of the iconic Land Rover - rugged, characterful, and highly usable. The top-level XS specification added a more refined cabin and desirable options, making these late Td5s particularly collectable today. However, while many have lived hard lives, the superb example offered here has clearly been cherished from day one.
Supplied new in 2006 and acquired by our vendor in 2007, it has since remained in gentle use and not abused off-road at his country estate. As a result, the odometer displayed just 44, 822 miles at the time of photography, supported by a full service history, and any work/ maintenance required was carried out immediately, according to our vendor. It was professionally repainted in Grasmere Green, a subtle and highly evocative, heritage-style hue that suits the XS perfectly and sets this example apart from the usual utility colours.
Inside, the factory-black, half-leather interior with contrasting white stitching remains in excellent condition, and the correct rubber overmats have been fitted throughout to protect the cabin. Being an XS, it features heated seats, air-conditioning, electric windows and ABS/ traction control – the most civilised specification available. In the rear are four fold-down seats, making this a versatile 90 with added practicality.
Mechanically, the Defender is said to be running and driving beautifully, a testament to consistent maintenance rather than intermittent attention. It sits on correct Boost alloy wheels, the definitive factory fitment for the Td5 XS.
