For sale: an incredibly rare Teijo pickup, based on the legendary Volkswagen Basic Transporter EA489. This vehicle is not just a classic, it’s a genuine piece of automotive history. It is estimated that only 150 to 200 Teijo pickups were produced, making it a true rarity. Manufactured from 1974 to 1977 in Finland, in collaboration with Volkswagen and official importer WIHURI, this vehicle stands out as a major collector’s item.
Unique Origin:
The Teijo pickup was conceived as an affordable, simple utility for the Finnish market, with the cab and the cargo bed specifically adapted to local needs. The rest of the technical equipment, such as the engine, gearbox, and instruments, comes directly from Volkswagen’s product range. The result is a robust vehicle with the unmistakable charm of Volkswagen quality and reliability.
History of this Vehicle:
This specimen, vehicle number 9, dates from the late 1970s and belonged to the Finnish gardening company VAPO (specialist in horticultural peat). The original VAPO decals are still visible on the doors, underscoring this vehicle’s unique history. It has retained its charm over the years and is a genuine collector’s item for VW enthusiasts.
Teijo Pickup Features:
Engine and Mechanical: Equipped with a 1600cc air-cooled VW engine and front-wheel drive. The Teijo has stood idle for a while; brake maintenance and an engine service would be beneficial. We can arrange these repairs if needed.
Exterior: The cab remains in its original blue paint, except for the front and rear wings, which were repainted. The engine hood still bears the original “TEIJO” sticker. There are signs of use, but that adds to the vehicle’s character.
Bed: The wooden floor of the bed has been completely renewed, as has the metal frame. Bed dimensions are 3700 x 2000 mm, with a maximum payload of 1380 kg. The Teijo is therefore both a striking visual asset and a genuinely functional workhorse.
Interior: The interior is in excellent original condition. The seats have been carefully restored using the same material as was used in the original manufacture.
