The car has rear-wheel drive, with the mid-engine mounted longitudinally to improve balance.
The bodywork of the car is made from various materials: steel for the roof, aluminum for the doors, front wheel arches, and rear sills, while carbon fiber composite materials were used for the front and rear spoilers, the hoods, and the side skirts.
The rear wing, available upon request, was also made from carbon fiber and painted in the body color.
LAMBORGHINI decided to design its own efficient electronic fuel injection system to replace the twin Weber carburetor setup on the Countach's 12-cylinder V engine.
The early Diablos had a minimal standard equipment setup: a basic radio-cassette player with an optional CD player, manual windows, manually adjustable seats, and, to optimize the vehicle's weight, no system ABS.
