Carefully restored by marque specialists in the 2000s
According to 1989 correspondence on file from Carlo Felice Bianchi Anderloni, former CEO of Touring Superleggera, this 'Experimental Sport Series Type IV, triple-carburettor touring (long) chassis 918100' was completed on 15th April 1952 finished in grey with a blue leather interior and matching convertible top. This car is one of only five long-wheelbase 6C 2500 models produced, of which only two or three survive. Alfa Romeo Classiche's Certificato di Origine is on file.
Shortly after completion, the car was purchased new by James Omar Radford of Abilene, Texas. A millionaire heir to a thriving wholesale grocery and real estate business, Radford spent most of his time in Hollywood working as a film producer. A few years later, this remarkable Alfa Romeo Cabriolet passed to the famous American architect, William Kesling.
The next recorded owner (from 1972) was L H 'Bud' Von Nordheim of National City, California. Records indicate that Von Nordheim carefully maintained the Alfa until August 1979. The car was then left on his property in a state of partial restoration until it was rescued in 1987 by Alfa Romeo enthusiast David Skora of Escondido, California. Photographs on file show that the car had been repainted several times since 1952 while retaining much of its original interior under a light-coloured top. A set of Borrani wire wheels had been fitted (preserved by subsequent owners to the present day).
Bruce Robertson of Lake Forest, Illinois found this 6C 2500 Cabriolet in 1997 in the middle of a restoration commissioned by Skora. Robertson ensured that it was returned to the factory-correct colour combination and completed to the highest standards by Eric Roseneau. The car left Roseneau in 2003 and immediately claimed awards for 'Best Alfa Romeo' and 'Best of Show' at the Detroit Concorso d'Italia. Robertson later exhibited this beautiful car at the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance and various local events near Chicago, before selling it to Oscar Davis in 2008.
With superbly elegant lines, this is undoubtedly one of the most desirable variants of the Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 with exclusive coachwork by Touring. It even comes with correspondence with the great Sig. Anderloni himself and will surely to be welcomed at the world's most prestigious concours events. The car is offered with a history file and comes with a US-title. All EU-taxes have been paid.
All lots are sold 'as is/ where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams|Cars website for all pertinent auction information.
