Older German quality restoration
After the first German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer chose this vehicle as his official car, the name ‘Adenauer-Mercedes’ for the W 186-300 became customary. Until the introduction of the Mercedes 600, the 300 was the quintessential German representative limousine.
The 300 was powered by a 3‑litre six‑cylinder engine producing 115 horsepower, with two carburettors. Power was transmitted through a fully synchronised four‑speed gearbox, enabling a top speed of around 160 km/ h, making it one of the fastest cars of its era.
A technical feature of the entire 300 range was central lubrication, which made the then‑common lubrication nipples unnecessary.
In the cabriolet version, the cars were ordered only rarely. Of 4, 563 sedans, only 455 were cabriolets.
The new price in 1952 was 23, 700 DM; the smaller 220 was already available in Cabriolet B for 15, 150 DM.
Our car was fully restored over 30 years ago by a specialist shop in Karlsruhe.
Previously the car was registered in Switzerland.
Since then it has been part of a larger Mercedes collection and, owing to its reliability, has been frequently used for longer trips, for example to Italy.
