We are pleased to offer this characterful 1930 Hudson Great Eight four-door saloon, finished in black with a green interior, a striking pre-war American motor car that appears to retain much of its original paintwork, now displaying a wonderful honest patina that suits the car perfectly.
The car shows 61, 295 miles and is powered by Hudson’s impressive straight-eight cylinder engine, paired with a 3-speed manual gearbox, delivering the smooth performance these cars were well known for in their day.
This left-hand drive example was imported from Springfield, Illinois (USA) to the UK in 1997, where it remained until it was finally registered in the UK in 2016. Since registration it has had just one UK owner.
The body appears remarkably solid and rust free, presenting very well for a vehicle of this age. The aged paintwork gives the car a fantastic period appearance while retaining an authentic look that many collectors now actively seek.
Mechanically the car runs smoothly and has recently been serviced, including the fitment of a new carburettor, helping ensure reliable running. The engine bay presents well and the straight-eight engine remains one of the defining features of these prestigious Hudson models.
Inside, the car retains its period-correct green interior, which complements the exterior finish and adds to the car’s overall originality and charm.
The vehicle comes with a good history file documenting its time in the UK along with supporting paperwork.
Overall this Hudson presents extremely well and offers a rare opportunity to acquire a highly original, usable pre-war American straight-eight saloon.
Please study the photographs carefully as they form part of the description.
Model History
The Hudson Great Eight was introduced in 1930 as part of Hudson Motor Car Company’s move toward more powerful and refined automobiles. Powered by a smooth inline straight-eight engine, these cars were positioned as premium vehicles competing with brands such as Buick, Chrysler and Nash.
Features included:
Hudson L-head straight-eight engine
Approximately 80–85 horsepower
Excellent smoothness and refinement for the era
Strong, well-engineered chassis construction
Hudson produced several Great Eight body styles in 1930 including sedans, coupes and touring models. Overall Hudson production for 1930 was around 67, 000 vehicles, with Great Eight models representing the upper end of the range.
Surviving examples today are relatively scarce, particularly cars retaining their original finishes and character.
