We are delighted to present for sale this 1996 Range Rover P38 4 litre V8, finished in Oxford Blue with Cream Leather Interior. This particular example is the "SE" model - which included full leather, cruise control, dual zone climate control, alloy wheels, tow bar with electrics, front head light washers, and extended leather to the door cards. We are particular fans of the V8 P38s - it is a buttery smooth engine, with plenty of torque and power. This particular example has only covered 92, 000 miles from new - that equates to just 3065 miles a year since new 30 years ago!
Externally, as the photos show, this P38 is finished in Oxford Blue, with OEM alloy wheels, shod with Michelin 4x4 Tyres. The "SE" spec means a tow bar with electrics comes as standard, which is helpful to allow towing should it be needed - the V8 is well equipped for this job, as one might imagine. We believe the photos do the rest of the talking - any potential buyer who has been looking for a P38 will see that this vehicle is well above the standard of the vast majority of P38s in relation to the bodywork, and this is due to the low mileage and fastidious ownership.
On the inside, the photos show the benefits of the SE package - with the full leather, electric windows, electric wing mirrors, heated seats, air conditioning, cruise control with steering wheel controls, deluxe carpets and extended leather on the doors - it is just a lovely place to be, again likely due to the low mileage. A replacement headliner has been fitted in times past, which is nice to see. We'll be trotting out the same theme across this entire advert - it is well above what would would expect in a 1996 P38, and that is due to the low mileage and care taken by previous keepers. The BCM (body control module) which was well known to cause electrical gremlins on the early P38s with electronics has been upgraded to the later, more reliable unit, which is great to see - this also means you get two keys, which is handy if you have a partner who also needs to drive it!
Out on the road, this P38 gives a great account of itself - we're particular fans of the V8s, both the 4L and the 4. 6L - as they are super smooth, have plenty of reserve power and give better fuel economy than one may imagine - particularly on a longer run. It is refreshing to get into a "proper" Range Rover, which isn't full of screens or driving aids which fight the wheel when you change lane, or bong when it has misread the speed limit... and as you can probably tell, we are speaking from experience. It drives wonderfully, sitting on the proper air suspension, which has also been recently renewed with a replacement compressor. It can sit happily at road speed - being almost on tick over at 70mph in the outside lane - and it'll go far faster than that if you fancy risking your license... or if you holiday on the continent with the faster, European roads, the reserve power is very welcome.
In summary then, if you are looking for a V8 P38, which is well equipped, has low mileage and is in a condition which would be the envy of most of its peers - this is well worth considering. It is crazy to think that in just ten years time a car such as this, with air suspension and all the "mod cons" will not need an MOT or pay any road tax... which should only serve to increase residual values further, and reduce ownership costs. P38 residuals are rising sharply, particularly on "good ones" with low mileage, as they have become quite collectable in recent times.... don't forget - this also comes with our major mechanical, in house, JB 4x4 HQ warranty - for peace of mind in ownership too.
