Description
This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, Online Auction - 30th April on Thursday the 30th of April. Background
The 2006 Toyota Century (GZG50) represents the pinnacle of Japanese automotive luxury, often referred to as the 'Japanese Rolls-Royce'. This model year is part of the second generation (1997–2017), notable for being the only production car from Japan to feature a V12 engine.
The Century was powered by the hand-built 5. 0-litre 1GZ-FE V12 which was designed for extreme smoothness - famously demonstrated by balancing a coin on the engine block while idling - which was officially rated at 276bhp (to comply with a Japanese 'gentleman's agreement'), though actual output is estimated closer to 300bhp. 2006 models are equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission and the electronically-controlled air suspension was tailored for a 'serene' chauffeured experience rather than sporty handling.
The interior was traditionally fitted with high-quality wool upholstery, preferred by Japanese elite because it is quieter and more breathable than leather, and the 'Pass-Through' seat was a signature feature where the front passenger seat centre-back folds down, allowing the rear VIPs to stretch their legs completely through to the front. The exterior paint consists of seven layers, hand-polished to a mirror-like lacquer finish and the grille and wheels featured the Hō'ō (Phoenix) emblem, handcrafted over six weeks, instead of standard Toyota logos.
This 2006 example presents well and has patently been looked after. The odometer indicates 187, 825km, which equates to 116, 637 miles.
The interior is trimmed in medium-grey leather with grey carpets and acres of highly polished figured wood veneers. There are rear side-window blinds, a rear screen blind and 'antimacassars' on the headrests and seat arms which probably explains why the car has remained in this remarkable condition The rear seats offer full power adjustment, massaging functions and even a built-in footrest. It's fitted with a Dual EMV package, meaning display screens for both front and rear passengers, and the premium sound system and advanced climate-control ensure that every journey is a first-class experience.
The car has been tastefully modified, with slightly lower suspension and a set of chrome alloys, which makes it look the part and become a different offering to the normal Century’s royal demeanour. Cars that have lived in Japan are generally meticulously maintained and our vendor notes that this Century presents in 'excellent condition'. This car is currently undergoing UK-registration, (all the correct duties and taxes have been paid), and is awaiting a V5C.
