Exterior / Body:
The model shown here is a RENAULT 5 ALPINE Turbo from December 1983 in the period colour “Metallic grey-silver 620”.
This example’s bodywork was restored a few years ago. As part of the work, the shell received a full fresh coat of paint. It is in excellent condition, with a uniform shade and superb gloss.
After a professional polish using an orbital machine, two small dings were noted on the tailgate.
The bumpers are perfectly aligned and in good condition.
CIBIE fog lights and long-range lamps are fully functional.
The 4 ALPINE-type wheels are in good condition.
These are shod with Falken tyres showing 20% wear on both front and rear.
This example retains its original steel spare wheel, jack and crank.
Among the notable exterior equipment and options on this car, we noted:
The body restoration, original fog lights and long-range CIBIE lamps.
Interior:
The original Sable-coloured corduroy upholstery is presentable and in good overall condition.
There is some creasing of the velour on the front and rear seats and a slight halo on the rear seat.
The front door panels in matching faux leather with pockets are in excellent condition.
The original dashboard is also in superb condition.
All original instruments are fully functional, including turbo pressure gauges and coolant temperature gauge, as well as the VEGLIA clock.
The original black leather ISO DELTA steering wheel shows light patina from use.
The bakelite gear knob is in good condition.
The JVC CD radio is fully functional.
The Beige headlining is in good condition with a minor scuff in the middle.
The map lights no longer operate.
All Sable-coloured carpets and Noir floor mats are in good condition.
Among the notable interior equipment and options, we noted:
The original ISO DELTA three-spoke leather sports steering wheel and the JVC CD radio.
Chassis:
Lifting the car onto the ramp confirms a solid shell with no obvious structural corrosion.
The basics (floor pans, longitudinals, sills and wheel arches) are in good order.
As a rule we cannot guarantee perfect alignment beyond the visible and functional condition verified on the road test and on the ramp.
During the dynamic test, no abnormal rattles or noise from the body or running gear were detected.
Braking is balanced, stable and progressive, with no vibrations or unusual noises.
Front brake discs show 10% wear and rear discs 40% wear.
Front brake pads show 40% wear and rear pads 30% wear.
The follow-up technical inspection carried out by our workshop prior to delivery will confirm overall functionality.
Engine / Transmission:
The mechanicals operate flawlessly.
Compression readings and a road test performed by our workshop confirm an engine in excellent health.
The 4-cylinder turbo starts promptly and idle is stable, as shown by the 360° video with engine running available at the start of the slideshow.
Once warmed up, revs climb smoothly with no jerks or smoke.
Oil pressure measured cold is 5 bar at 1100 rpm.
When warm, the cast aluminium Keel-on-block turbocharged engine revs up cleanly without hesitation or overheating.
Turbo boost is steady.
The sound of the 4-cylinder turbo is enhanced by an intermediate stainless steel exhaust section.
The 5 gears of the manual gearbox shift perfectly, particularly the synchros.
Clutch bite is good.
As is common with these models, engine, gearbox and prop shaft seals are only average.
