Exterior / Body:
The example shown here is a March 1963 TR4 in its period colour “Signal Red”.
The body has been restored a few years ago. At that time the shell received a full new paint job.
It is in excellent display condition, showing a uniform shade and an excellent gloss.
After a professional polish performed on the orbital machine by our workshop, we noted a minor paint chip repaired on the leading edge of the left front wing.
This example is fitted with a luggage rack (trunk).
We noted a small oxidation around the rear light housing.
The front bumper and chrome overriders are in good condition; by contrast the rear bumper and its overriders show signs of oxidation.
The mohair hood (black) is in perfect display condition.
Installation is easy, although alignment with the side windows remains imperfect.
Rear mica windows in PVC are perfectly translucent and show no cracks or breaks.
We noted the absence of the keys for the doors and the boot.
The four 15’’ painted wire wheels are in excellent condition.
The chrome knock-offs are in perfect condition.
The two front tyres will be replaced with new ones before delivery.
The two rear Hankook tyres show 30% wear.
The spare wheel is present in its original location under the luggage rack, as is the mallet.
Among the interesting exterior options/ equipment for this example we noted:
The black mohair hood in perfect condition and the luggage rack.
Interior:
The interior was restored a few years ago to original specifications and today presents in excellent condition.
The black faux leather upholstery with white piping shows no patina, wear or fading.
The matching door panels are in perfect condition; we noted a slight snag on the driver’s dash pocket.
The original white dashboard and the black faux leather cap are in good condition.
All of the JAEGER instrument cluster and the LUCAS ammeter are fully functional except for the lighting.
The original Triumph bakelite steering wheel is in perfect condition.
The Triumph leather gear knob shows signs of wear.
The VOXSON radio is non-functional but has been retained for aesthetics.
The black carpets were replaced during restoration and show no wear or fading.
This example is also equipped with aviation-type three-point seat belts at the front.
Among the interior equipment and options, we note:
The white dashboard and the Triumph leather gear knob.
Chassis:
Docking confirms a sound chassis and shell, with no obvious structural corrosion.
The fundamentals: sills, wheel arches, wheel wells, ladder-frame chassis and outriggers are in very good condition.
Usage reserve: in principle we cannot guarantee perfect alignment beyond their good visual and functional condition validated during road test and docking.
During the dynamic test we did not notice any abnormal rattles or noises from the body or running gear (ball joints, bushings...).
Braking is aligned and its efficiency remains in line with period standards.
We noted the presence of aviation-type flexible hoses on the front brakes.
Front brake discs show 30% wear.
Front brake pads show 20% wear.
The rear drums are fully functional and show no seepage.
The pre-delivery technical inspection carried out by our workshop will confirm overall functionality on delivery.
Engine / Transmission:
The mechanics operate perfectly.
Compression tests and road test performed by our workshop confirm a healthy engine.
The 4-cylinder starts immediately, with no smoke or unusual noises and idle is stable, as confirmed by the 360° video with engine running available at the start of the slideshow.
Cold oil pressure measured by our workshop is 5 bar at 1000 rpm.
At speed and once hot, the engine revs freely without stalling or overheating.
Mechanical reliability is enhanced by the additional electric cooling fan.
The original exhaust has been replaced with stainless steel, noticeably improving the sound of the TRIUMPH engine.
The gearbox works perfectly. All four gears engage and disengage smoothly, particularly the synchros. Clutch bite is good.
This example is equipped with an interesting and sought-after option: Overdrive.
It operates perfectly, giving electrical overdrive for third and fourth gears.
As with many older engines, engine/ gearbox sealing is average.
