Exterior / Body:
The model presented here is an MG B from September 1979 in its original ‘Maya Brown’ colour.
The bodywork is in good presentation condition, with a uniform tone and good gloss.
After a professional polish with orbital equipment by our workshop, we noted a few paint defects on the engine hood, a small dent on the top of the rear left wing and the boot lid.
The chrome bumpers are in perfect condition.
We noted a small crack on the left rear light lens cap.
The tinted windscreen is in good condition.
The original tan soft top is in excellent presentation condition.
Its fitting is easy and its waterproofing complies with period standards.
The mica appears slightly micro-scratched.
The four original Rostyle steel wheels are in good condition, with no sign of impact or deformation despite a few paint chips.
They are fitted with four chrome wheel trims in very good condition.
The four Hankook tires show 5% wear.
This example is equipped with its spare wheel and original jack as well as a spare wheel cover.
Among the notable exterior equipment and options on this car we have: chrome wheel trims and the tinted windscreen “Green”.
Interior:
The interior is in good presentation condition.
Beige faux leather upholstery is in excellent condition.
Matching door panels are in very good condition, with no scuffs or sagging.
Wood finish dashboard is in perfect condition.
Wood trim on the central console is also in good condition.
The dash cap shows no deformation or discolouration.
All SMITH instrumentation is fully functional except the odometer.
The original clock is fully functional.
The Kenwood CD radio is likewise functional.
Conversely, the ventilation is no longer functional.
This example is fitted with a wooden MOTOLITA steering wheel in excellent condition, with no cracks.
MG leather gear knob has a patina from use.
The central armrest with storage is in very good condition.
The carpets in beige/ black are in original good condition with no major wear or discolouration.
This example is equipped with seat belts.
Among the notable interior equipment and options, we note: 12-volt socket, central armrest with storage, MOTOLITA wooden steering wheel, MG leather gear knob and Kenwood CD radio.
Chassis:
Wheel-on-lift inspection confirms a sound body with no obvious structural corrosion.
The basics: sills, floor pans, lower wings and wheel arches are in good condition.
We noted a slight wave along the right front longitudinal member.
As a rule, we cannot guarantee these elements beyond their visual and functional good condition confirmed during road test and by lifting on the hoist.
During the dynamic test, we did not notice any unusual noises from the body or suspension components (ball joints, bushings, etc.).
Braking is balanced, with no vibrations or abnormal noises.
Front discs and pads show 20% wear.
Rear drums are fully functional with no seepage.
The pre-delivery technical inspection will confirm overall proper operation.
Engine / Transmission:
The mechanicals are operating perfectly.
Compression tests and the road test performed by our workshop confirm a healthy engine.
The four-cylinder starts immediately, with no smoke or suspicious noises, and idling is stable, as demonstrated by the 360° video with the engine running available at the start of the slide show.
Cold oil pressure measured by our workshop is 70 psi at 900 rpm.
Under way, the engine revs cleanly without stumbles or overheating.
Mechanical reliability is enhanced by a serpentine cooling dual-fan setup, electronic ignition and a 12V alternator, more reliable and powerful than the original dynamo fitted to early models.
The four-cylinder tone is sharpened by a stainless steel secondary silencer.
The gearbox operates perfectly.
All four gears engage smoothly, particularly the synchros.
Clutch grip is good.
The rear axle shows slight play.
As with many models of this type, engine to rear-axle seals are only average.
