According to the available records, this 190SL was produced in 1962 for the American market and returned to Germany to Lake Starnberg near Munich in April 1991. It remained there until 2020 and was part of the life story of the previous owner’s family, who maintained it consistently and professionally, with cost-conscious care.

The current owner, a businessman from near Sindelfingen, where this 190SL was built in 1962 in the Mercedes-Benz factory halls, fulfilled a long‑cherished dream and bought the SL a few years ago. When he’s not driving it, he also spends the year in the workshop of his classic-car specialist, where it is professionally serviced and cared for. The soft top fits tight, the gearbox shifts really flawlessly, the engine runs smoothly and evenly, and the brakes bite as if the drums had been swapped for discs. But more important than anything else: the Mercedes is regularly driven, because a standstill fault is ultimately more expensive to fix than regular driving and thorough maintenance of a classic icon.

History of the Mercedes-Benz MERCEDES-BENZ 190SL W121
On 6 February 1954 Mercedes-Benz presented the first 190SL prototype at the International Motor Show in New York. After pre-series production began, the final version was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 1955 and production started in May. The 190SL, designated W121 II, was produced from 1955 to 1963 in a total of 25, 881 units, of which 10, 368 were exported to the USA alone. Technically it is based on the four-door Ponton sedan of the W121 series, equipped with the newly developed four-cylinder petrol engine with OHC and a power of 77 kW / 105 PS; with that the vehicle reached a top speed of around 170 km/ h. The 190SL was offered at factory without power steering, only with a manual transmission and exclusively with this engine variant.
